How To Find Surplus Dealers In Canada
With more than it’s share of wholesale directories, dedicated trade magazines, and organizations like the Internet Marketing Association Of Surplus Dealers, finding a variety of surplus product suppliers in the United States can be a relatively easy task. If you are looking for a host of surplus dealers in the provinces and territories of Canada, then your search for an organization or industry specific publication might find you at a disadvantage. For reasons that I am unaware of, there isn’t a “one stop” source of information or organization that can lead you to a variety of general merchandise surplus dealers residing within the Great White North (Canada). You basically just have to find them the old fashioned way, by employing a little sweat equity and research. Fortunately, this article will help shorten the duration of your work efforts so that you will be able to locate the Canadian surplus dealer of your choice. Below are some resources that will help you get started, as well as a small list of Canadian surplus dealers that I have found through my own research. Canadian Government Surplus–Crown Asset Distribution Crown Assets Distribution works within Government Services of Canada. They dispose of moveable federal government surplus material through 6 regional Crown Asset Distribution Centers across the Canadian region. Sale methods include tenders, public sales auctions and direct sales. The direct sale of surplus material can range anywhere from ships, to furniture and clothing, as well as items seized on behalf of federal government departments and agencies. Surplus.net Surplus Buyers Guide Even though the Surplus Buyers Guide is a United States creation featuring surplus dealers throughout the United States, they do have a small listing of surplus dealers from Nova Scotia and Ontario. Canadian Yellow Pages Canada 411 Let your keyboard do the walking! This is one suggestion that may seem obvious, but using the Canadian Yellow pages and Canada 411 is a good way to find surplus dealers throughout the provinces. Just type these keyword phrases in the Yellow Page browser to find just about any surplus dealer in the province of your choice: Liquidators, Surplus & Salvage Merchandise, Job Lot Merchandise, Auction Sale. Principal Liquidators Canadian Corporate Liquidators Valentini Distributors GorillaSurplus.com Canadian Home Liquidators ServTekCanada.com Canadian Trade Closeouts.com Direct Liquidation.ca Through my own efforts, the companies listed above are surplus dealers residing in Canada. Before you entertain any thoughts about surplus products purchasing, a few words of caution. In addition to reading my article regarding “The Ten Tenets Of The Surplus And Salvage Industry,” you must be aware that some dealers are notorious for selling their customers junk merchandise. Always visit the perspective surplus dealer and inspect any merchandise you plan on buying. Do not, and I repeat, do not wire money into any surplus dealers bank account without visiting, or seeing the product first. If for some reason you cannot visit the surplus dealer of your choice, then I would suggest that you purchase small product lots (a pallet) and use an escrow service like Escrow.com to protect your purchase. If the dealer accepts Paypal, then use Visa or Mastercard as your credit card of choice. Agree to pay all, or half of the fees associated with using a credit card or Escrow service. In addition, if any dealer does not let you visit their facility when you are attempting to make a bulk purchase, then I would suggest that you move onto another supplier. By following these simple rules you will be on the road to a safe and profitable business future.

Contributor's Note
Do not wire transfer or T/T any money to an independent surplus dealer or liquidation company. The only exception to that rule is if you are on sight to inspect the product and take possession of it. Employ escrow companies such as Escrow.com, or use credit cards with buyers protection if you plan on purchasing surplus products without the benefit of being on site to inspect the merchandise beforehand. If any dealer or company objects to using these forms of payment, or that the fees will eat into their profit margin when using Escrow or Credit Cards, offer to pay half, or all of the fees associated with the transaction.
